9/22/26 Lake Erie Walleye Fishing Report — Central Basin out of Lorain

Lake Erie Central Basin walleye fishing is amazing. Long runs are still the norm. I’ve been getting a little farther out because of the wind direction, keeping the waves on the stern of the boat for a much more comfortable troll. I’ve been taking the walleye boat way, way offshore, northeast of the Port of Lorain, targeting 61 to 69 feet of water depending on the wind direction where I start.
Air temperature has been in the 70s; skies mostly cloudy with occasional rain showers. Seas have averaged 2 to 5 feet. Water temperature is 73 degrees on the surface and 72 degrees 54 feet down in the water column.
Our program hasn’t changed from the last report — we’re still fishing our Dipsy Divers around 50 feet down in the water column with the shallow-diving Junior Thundersticks; hot colors are Mojo and green speck. On the board lines, 300 feet of 12-lb American wire with big deep Thundersticks — hot colors gold and black, pink and chrome, and Maui. Downriggers running Big Moe’s 2.5 square bills with 54 feet of cable out, 15 feet behind the ball, have taken many fish too. Speed at the lure has been 2.2 to 2.5 mph on the Fish Hawk.
I can’t say it enough — the fishing is great. We’ve been catching some really nice, heavy boxes of Lake Erie walleye, most fish in the 20- to 22-inch range with the occasional bigger one, even though we haven’t hit an official Fish Ohio in a few weeks.
